SensePlayer Maintenance Update April 2025 – Enhancements and Upgrade Instructions

Selvas BLV has released a new maintenance update for the SensePlayer and SensePlayer OCR, bringing a range of valuable enhancements and system optimizations to this powerful screen reader and multimedia player.

Key Enhancements and Additions

This update includes the following key improvements:

1. Updated Web Radio and Podcast Lists

   • The default libraries for online radio and podcasts have been refreshed for a better listening experience.

2. Smart Connect Keyboard Mode – Numeric Mode Added

   • A new numeric entry mode has been added to the Smart Connect Keyboard cycle, enhancing usability during text input.

3. Bug Fixes and Performance Enhancements

   • Various minor issues have been resolved, improving overall system stability.

Important Upgrade Notes

Before upgrading your device, please be aware of the following:

• Battery Requirement:

  • The upgrade cannot proceed if your battery is below 40%, even if connected to AC power.

  • If your battery is above 50%, the upgrade can be performed without AC power.

• Firmware Compatibility:

  • The same firmware file supports both SensePlayer and SensePlayer OCR models. The installer will automatically detect your device type.

• Data Protection and Backup:

  • Your flashdisk data is protected during the upgrade. However, it is highly recommended to back up your data in case of unexpected issues.

• Do Not Interrupt the Upgrade:

  • Once started, the upgrade cannot be canceled. Avoid pressing any keys or resetting the unit.

  • The update process may take several minutes depending on your internet speed.

• Storage Requirement:

  • Ensure there is sufficient storage space on the device’s flashdisk to hold the update files.

Upgrade Methods

1. Online Upgrade via Wi-Fi

To perform the update using an internet connection:

1. Connect to Wi-Fi and plug into AC power (or have 50%+ battery).

2. Navigate to Utilities > Upgrade SensePlayer Firmware.

3. Select “Upgrade: Online” and press OK.

4. The system will download the update from the HIMS server.

5. Once downloaded, the upgrade process begins automatically.

6. After installation, the device will reboot, and “File Manager” will be announced.

To verify the new software version, press the Menu button while in the Home menu.

2. Offline Upgrade via USB or SD Card

To update from an external device:

1. Download the update file here:
   SensePlayer Firmware Update – BIN File

   • If your browser changes the file extension to .zip, rename it back to .bin without extracting.

2. Copy the .bin file to the root directory of a USB thumb drive or SD card.

3. Insert the external media into the SensePlayer.

4. Navigate to Utilities > Upgrade SensePlayer Firmware.

5. Press the Right Arrow to select “Upgrade: Offline” and press OK.

6. The update process will begin automatically. Do not interact with the device until it is complete.

7. The device will reboot and return to the Home menu with the “File Manager” announcement.

Final Notes

• During the upgrade, progress beeps and spoken announcements will guide the process.

• If firmware settings have changed, your SensePlayer may reset to default settings and launch the Quick Start Guide.

• For optimal results, ensure stable power and connectivity throughout the process.
