Accessible Mobile Apps and Talking Devices for Health Monitoring

Prescription readers are not the only speech-accessible devices that can improve the quality of your life.
Talking Glucose Monitors
If you are diabetic, you can check your own glucose levels using a talking glucose monitor. There are several models available. Check with your insurance company, pharmacist or other diabetes supplies provider and you may find you are eligible to receive a talking glucose monitor at a reduced price, or even free.
Talking Thermometers and Blood Pressure Monitors
Other talking health devices that are widely available include talking thermometers and talking blood pressure monitors. Check the AFB product database in products for health and fitness for a listing of similar devices. Amazon and Walmart, carry several products at reasonable prices. And speaking of thermometers: these days you can find thermometers that will speak your body temperature, or the temperature outside, or the temperature of that roast beef you just put in the oven.
Talking Scales
If you’re on a special diet, you will likely wish to purchase a talking kitchen scale. If you are dieting to lose weight, a talking bathroom scale may be in order. Consult the AFB product database for suggestions. Increasingly, you can find these and other talking devices in large general merchandise online and brick-and-mortar retailers.
Online Retailers of Adaptive Equipment and Devices
Consult the Sources of Specialty Products section in the AFB Directory of Services for a state-by-state listing of retailers.
